This might sound like a stupid query, but should I tackle 'paste the wall' wallpapering as I would for 'paste the paper'!? or are there any special techniques required?

If the instructions on the wallpaper says 'Paste the wall' then thats exactly what you do, paste the wall.
Paste an area slightly wider than the paper [three or four inches.. 60-100mm,] and then stick the paper to the wall making sure you brush out all the air bubbles. then carry on round the room.
Piece of cake.......Dai Wink

What's the difference, what would happen if you were to paste the paper?
(just curious)

very interesting question mellowyellow, I suppose I sounded like the idiot for asking instructions in the first place.

To me, however, the instructions didn't seem very detailed, even a little simple, and I was certain that it must be more complicated due to the amount that decorators charge to put the stuff up.

Your apology is accepted Mellowyellow.. If you were to paste the paper, you would get into a mess because most Novamuras are VERY thin and would probably stick to itself when you tried to fold it prior to hanging. All wallcovering manufacturers display pasting instructions on each roll because all papers need different absorption times. If you hang a paper before it's had time to absorb the paste and soften, you would end up with a wall full of bubbles and wrinkles. I certainly know the answer. I was decorating for over forty years before I retired 5 years ago. Dai. Wink Wink Wink
