i have just bought two 'american audio ttd-2500 mk II' and one of the styli broke...
i was wondering would i need a american audio styli to fit the cartridge, or could i buy any styli to fit the cartrige...

| As a general rule, only styli from that particular cartridge (or range of cartridges) will fit. You could always buy a pattern replacement, (ie non-OEM), but it's always better to get the real thing even if it costs more. There's no such thing as a universal 'fit all' stylus. I'm not familiar with the particular cartridge you mention, but in the UK (in the broadcast industry at least) the Ortofon OM-PRO-S seems to be the norm these days, and that has a 'nightclub' variant (same stylus which will fit, but made of a fluorescent material). (They also do a 'concorde' version, which incorporates the headshell too.) Whatever you do, remember that proper geometric alignment and downforce setting are of paramount importance for best performance and record care. (You can cause more damage by having the downforce set too low, BTW.) |

Seriouslly just go and buy soem ortofon concord heads and stylis
they ar ethe business and you can getcd quality auido repsonse form them "apparently"
I alway used ortofon and they are bettr than anyting else |
