Hi Nick. Thanks for all your help. I managed to save all the important stuff including e-mail addresses etc. Lost all my [and hers] bookmarks though, took me ages to find this site again. I couldn't remember what it was called.
Anyway, I managed to format and re-install Windows. The biggest job was re-installing all the programs, and getting all the drivers to work [some of 'em tried to avoid starting by hiding in the Window cafe somewhere in this big tower I have at my feet] but I persuaded them to show a leg by not shouting at them and bribery of course, [threatened to toss them out of the window, pardon the pun]. Well mate. thanks again, and if anyone reads this and they're having a few problems with their PC. well this guy knows his stuff,
