Hi All

I have a nokia car charging cable. Wish to hide this cable in the vehicle trim. So want to incorporate a rocker on off switch so I can control when the phone is charging rather than constantly plug and unplug the cable. Is this possible? I want to cut the cable in the middle and fit the switch onto it. I was thinking about this particular type of switch.

Help much appreciated.

Regards

I presume your in car charger is one that plugs into the accessory socket and you are intending to have it plugged in and insert a switch between the charger and the phone. This will leave the charger powered all the time with its possible risks.

A better solution would be to obtain an accessory extension lead and plug the phone charger into this. Now permanantly wire this extension lead, via your switch to the vehicle wiring.

When the switch is off, with this method, the charger is compleatly isolated.

Hi Alan

Your idea would be the ideal solution, which is more or less what I initially planned to do. I Will be hardwiring a 4 way socket to the car. Three of the items plugged into the unit will need to stay on all the time. The forth item which is the phone I want to be able to charge selectively. I don’t like the idea of trying to charge a fully charged phone so want a switch, which allows me to place the phone in to the cradle with attached charger and not have it charging if that makes any sense

Regards
