PLEASE HELP

I have a 97 Peugeot 306 (P reg) 1.9 XRDT

Just recently, whenever the heater is turned to warm/hot I am getting steam coming through the vents. Sad

Even when the temperature on the heating is turned to cold the car is having a lot of trouble de-misting with the fan on, so I am having to drive with the windows open!!

Any ideas.

Sounds like you might have a leak in the heater matrix.

Do you have to top the radiator up more frequentlynow?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me

Although I haven't needed to frequently top up the radiator, we have noticed recently the coolant level was very low, to the point that the fan started making a very loud noise and the engine made a sort of pulsing noise!!! The radiator has been topped up.

Don't know whether these are linked though.

Also, whatever is being pumped through the air vents is leaving the windscreen really greasy.

They are most definitly linked!

You need to get this sorted as what is being sprayed about is coolant, complete with antifreeze, and antifreeze is both an excellent paint stripper and corrosive mixture!

Greesy film is antifreeze!

This sounds serious and expensive!!!

Is this easy and cheap to fix? Would it still be ok to use the car, but not use the heaters, until I can get it fixed?

I would suggest a dose of radweld, or similar, sealer pending replacement of the heater matrix.

The heater is connected to the system all the time. It is only the flow that stops when the heater is off so it will always be leaking. The sealer should stop this but should really be considered as a short term fix.

Remember antifreeze is corrosive and an excellent paint stripper!
