| one of the cylinders is not running on my honda civic 1.8vti (1997)..at first i thought the head gasket had gone but temperature is normal and oil and water are not contaminated (phew !) i pulled each plug lead off to see which cylinder was off (no change) then i disconnected each injector and found it was number two injector, however there is a pulse on the injector when the engine is running and the resistanse is ok (also checked) before i dismantle the fuel rail etc, i was wondering if anybody has any idea what it could be ?...thanks in advance. tony......i've now checked the injectors and they are fine, so theres a spark and fuel going to the cylinder that is off, could the head gasket have gone and not show any signs appart from those stated, it runs ok on three cylinders (lumpy !) |

| Have you done a compression test on the cylinders? This will confirm if cylinder head gasket has failed. |

| have borrowed a compression tester and the cylinder that has the problem has zero compression the other three have between 11 and 14 bar, gonna take the head off tomorrow, was hoping for an easy fix but at least i can do those oil seals now, thanks for the advice...was told it may "just" be a sticking exhaust valve ! will let you know how i get on, tony. |

| just in case anybody was wondering, the loss of compression was due to a broken exhaust valve ! |
