I recently downloaded a virus called trojan horse, I have AVG antivirus software on my computer and it immediately detected it and allowed me to delete it. Thats ok, but now I keep getting pop ups to direct me to download other anti virus software and my homepage keeps changing to this link. How do I stop this as the virus on my comp is already gone. I tried to change my homepage on internet options but it keeps coming back up. I have windows xp professional running on my pc.
Thank you |

Hi
Typically, 'Trojan Horse' is the name of a group of viruses which copy themselves to the end of a legitimate program so that when you run the legitimate program they load themselves at the same time (usually to either observe what you are doing - with a view to obtaining private information like bank details, or usernames/passwords to sites you visit which it then retransmits over the internet to the writer of the virus to use, or to pop up annoying advertisements usually biased towards erectile disfunction ***** and so forth).
So my conclusion is that your machine is currently infected with one of these little pests.
I would recommend you download an application called Spybot Search and Destroy (which is complete FREE software) http://www.tucows.com/preview/310138 and run it. This application isn't an antivirus package, but it is exceptionally good at removing browser hijackers (which are a type of Trojan Horse) which from your description appears to be an issue for you.
Good Luck

| Another little action you need to take after you run the virus checker is to empty the deleted box, because the virus is still in the computer otherwise. |
