i currently have a 25 yr old back boiler system with the hot water tank in bedroom and header in loft. The heating to radiators comes on when the programmer is off even in hot weather. The stat has been changed along with the programmer.I am being told that the prob is due to a faulty valve.I assume this is the motorized valve from hot water to heating.cannot appear to find the valve in question though?. where would it normally be.should it be next to the hot water tank somewhere along with the programmer?.could there be another problem with the system other than the valve in question.
any help here much appreciated.
thanks

What back boiler and model.

Would suspect you don't have a motorized valve, look around the cylinder.

Need to know about the system is it fully pumped or gravity hot water.

Has the programmer been connected correctly, what stat room or cylinder.

Wheres the pump.

tks scruff
programmer has been fitted ok.the room stat was also changed.hot water is gravity fed and not pumped.make of back boiler is more difficult.i do know the gas fire in front of it is a make called majorca and controls the ignition and so on for the back boiler.
i will look around the cylinder today.if not a motorized valve then what would i be looking for?
many thanks

Its quite common for some rads to get hot when the hot water is gravity, Are you sure its all been re-wired correctly.

Some programmers have a pumped or gravity switch on the back is yours set for gravity.

Isthe pump running in hot water only mode.
