| I need to point an old red brick wall which has light cream coloured mortar. How can I match this colour and not end up with a dark grey mix the colour of the cement powder? |

Trial and error
The colour will depend on the sand, quantity of cement in the mix and type of cement.
The normal practice is to build a few dummy walls till you find the right colour, an old bricky/builder may give you a few starters |

| Addition of a small amount of masonary dye or colouring might help. |
