When I condemned his wiring, my buddy screams back, "I've been doing electrical work for TWENTY years!!" Then he added, "I'm RIGHT about this and YOU'RE wrong, and that's FINAL!"

When will they ever learn, I ask?? He connected a green ground wire to the white power wire, claiming vehemently that they're the same or equivalent -- that they're both grounds. Well that bozo has a few things to learn, eh? Even IF the entire house were professionally wired to code by a licensed electrician -- and you can never make that assumption -- but even if so, a single place in the house where a failsafe (double fault) green or bare ground wire is connected to white... can be a LETHAL HAZARD to folks!

Do you all agree? I hope so. Let's hear some feedback.

As a fully paid up member of the HSE I think DIY should be outlawed for certain types/jobs.

You only have to read some of the disasters waiting to happen on this forum to appreciate the need for safety and proper control.
