Background: Our house was built in 1993 and has a well. I have an OMNI whole house water filter (sediment only) connected just after the water bladder tank, after the filter, a SEARS water softner. The water filter handle broke so I can no longer put it in bypass mode. As such, when I change the filter I have to shut the main water valve off, open the laundry tub faucet until no more water comes out, then unscrew the filter and replace with a new one. After that I open the main valve and go to all the faucets, showers and toilets in the house and turn them on (flush)one at a time to bleed the air off. I do not do the outside faucets. There is also a small saddle valve attached to a cold water line for the furnace humidifyer.
1) Once in a while I get a loud rumbling noise in the pipes, it seems to occur more in cold weather (I think). It happens most when I flush the toilet in the powder room but also when other toilets and faucets are turned off. How can I stop this?
2) What should the air pressure be in the bladder tank?
3) The water pressure switch is set to go on at about 20 psi and off at about 50psi. I'd like to increase this to 30psi on and 55 psi off. Is that a problem? Would I have to adjust the air pressure in the bladder tank? Other concerns?
4) In our master bath shower there is a whistling sound when the water is on at the shower head. It seams to get louder when the pump comes on and then disappears and comes back. Why? Should I change the shower head?
Your help is GREATLY appreciated!
