|
|
Hi,
I would describe myself as a competent DIYer and have installed electrical sockets etc with no problem however the lighting circuit confuses me lol
I have installed a new bathroom and have also installed an extractor fan with timer however do not want to attach to light switch as i do not want it to work when the light is on (i have young children who are in and out of the bathroom!)
I have installed an extractor fan switch in the airing cupboard outside the bathroom and have connected the "out" to the fan as stated.
I have connected the "in" from the switch into the junction box that connects the wiring to the light switch..... neutral to neutral, permanent live to live and does the switched live go to the load??? as this junction box does not have a load connection as it is for the switch - if so then i will have to connect to another junction box......
When i have wired it up the fan did start and run - however also only when light was on - not what i wanted.... i changed wiring and fan did not run but light worked however when fan switch turned on the light flashed in the bathroom !!!
Can you help me please - I have ooked my part p course but it is 3 months away !
Regards

Hi
You may have sorted this already but anyway.
I think the switch you used is a fan isolator with a live, neutral and switch live connection. This is used to isolate the supply to a timer fan for maintenance/repair.
If you use this switch connect the live and neutral as normal, then connect the switch live in to the live in and the switch live out to the sw live at the fan.
Now if you switch the fan switch on the fan will run continuous. If you switch the switch off the fan will go off. the timer bit will not operate as when you switch it off it cuts the live and neutral.
For the timer to work leave the isolator switch wired as above and put another single pole light switch in the switch wire from the fan isolator. Now leave the isolator on and if you switch the new switch on the fan works continuous switch it off and it works for the time period.
hope you get that. |
