Hello,

Although I am not a plumber I am involved in the appliance business and do my share of water heater repair. Many times I have seen water heaters installed in drain pans damaged from the retained water that sometimes accumulates in the drain pan. The water is retained because the lowest point of the drain pans drainpipe connector is usually 3/4" above the bottom of the pan. The damage is usually in the form of rusting or in the case of gas water heaters the damage can be substantial causing a fire hazard or unnecessary malfunction because the retained water either fully or partially blocks critical fresh air vents necessary for combustion.

Also, often I see water heaters that are not installed on a level surface either sitting off plumb or akward attempts made to level them.

Have you seen the damage mentioned above and do you know of a suitable way to solve the retained water and leveling problems?
