There is a noise in my kitchen that is driving me insane

I cant quite suss out where it is coming from but when the mains water is turned off the noise reduces and can hear it clearer when putting head in the kitchen cupboard under the sink.

I can also hear the noise at night in our upstairs bathroom which is above the kitchen.

its the kind of noise that you can only hear if you are tuned into it as other people say they cant hear it.

I have heard this noise for the last 2 months but could of been ongoing for a long time?

We have looked behind the kitchen cabinets and behind the sink, soil pipe there is no water anywhere.

please help before my husband tears the kitchen apart.

May sound like a stupid answer but have you look outside.

An overflow dripping perhaps from the wc. Idea
