I have a shower which is only lukewarm, even when I turn the handle all the way to hot. The sink in the same bathroom is fine, and has plenty of hot water. All the other fixtues in the house are hot. The problem bathroom is upstairs from the hot water heater. All the other hot water upstairs is fine.

The fixture is a single handle Kohler.

Today, a plumber that I've used before, tried to replace part of the shower fixture from the outside....he thought that might do it. He said Kohler sometimes can be fixed from the outside. I wasn't sure what he meant, but considering the alternatives, I let him give it a shot.
Unfortunately, this did not work.

Anyway, the plumber said I must cut a hole in the wall, and then replace the fixture. I have installed new shower fixtures before during my basement finish recently, so I am somewhat familiar with this....

My question is could there be anything else that might be causing this? I hate to rip a hole in my shower, and then find out it was something else.

Is this common for a fixture to do something like this, let only a little bit of hot

Thanks, Dave.

Have you got a separate volume control, quite a few Kohler valves require it, which model have you got installed.

Are the hot and cold supplies balanced

I will find out today what model it is....
but I do have access from behind the shower as it turns out, so cutting through to the shower wont be too bad. it is just drywall from the backside.

If there is another valve, it certainly isn't on the outside of the shower....somebody at home depot thought maybe the unit has a scald guard on it...and maybe that wasnt working or adjusted correctly.

at this point, I am just going to replace the fixture and see if that fixes it.
