I ran 14/4 from a bathroom fan (fan, light, night light) to my existing switch box to find that I only need 14/3. The power source runs to a junction box in the attic which then goes to the existing lights putting the switches at the end of the circuit.

My questions are can I safely cap the extra wire at each end, tuck it back in the box and forget about it? And then second to get the common white to the new bathroom fan is safe for me to run a seperate white from the junction box to the fan, would I add a ground wire? already have a ground from the fan through the existing 14/4 tied into the main ground.

Thanks,

John

Why not use the 4th wire for the nuetral... use the white in the 14/4 for the nuetral and the bare is the ground... the colored wires for the switch legs.
