This subject was probably covered before, but I'm not sure where to look, I've already done a search and haven;t't found any specific answers so apoligies in advance.

I have a regular bulb fitted in my bathroom, as you can see pictured right at the bottom of this post.

I'm worried about electrical saftey, the light is located just outside the bath, when we have the curtains closed for showers, the steam rises all th way to the top, and over the curtain rail. The builb is just outside the curtain rail and in the way of the steam. I'm worried about the electricity jumping because of the steam, and a potentially lethal accident happening.

Is this rig safe, if now what lighting would be more appropriate and roughly how difficult is it to fit it/how much would it cost to have it done.

p.s. I should add that on that pic the shower curtain is down, I have removed it out of saftery precaution. I'd like to have shower back up ASAP so we can have showers again. Usually it sits about 10cms away from the bulb.

These fittings are not allowed in bathrooms any more.
Go to one of the DIY sheds and get a 6" globe fitting suitable for bathroom use. Should cost no more than £10.

It will come with instructions but if in any dought get a pro in.
Should cost no more than around £45 to fitt.

thanks for the reply vince. If I'm a tenant can I demand that the landlord change the fittings. Or does it not apply in this case.

I'm a student, and I cannot afford to spend money on these things.

If it is that close to the bath/shower then it does not comply and would fail a landlords certificate.
It is your landlords responsability.
