We own a house that was built in the 70's. At the time it was built the county sewer line did not run into our neighborhood so the builders put in a septic tank. This August the county had extended the sewer line into our neighborhood and we were hooked on. At the time the plumber was able to hook everything into the sewer line EXCEPT our washer. It is located in our basement which is well below the grade of the sewer line. The plumber hooked everything else into the sewer and capped off the washer. Everything worked fine until today. After doing a load of laundry we began to notice a strong sewer odor. We checked into the situation and believe that it is coming from the washer drainage into the septic tank NOT the sewer line. Is there anything we can do to help eliminate this? I should also let you know that this is the first time since switching over to the sewer that we have noticed this problem.
