hopefully someone can help, had a new stop cock fitted above old one which was seized open, since this was fitted water pressure to toilet when filling up seems strong so i turned stop cock half off, this has since cured but when i turn hot tap on & off there is a banging noise in pipes, also this happens when washing machine is filling,is this due to stop cock only half on or is this water hammer,if so can it be cured by draining cold water system, thanks for any help.................

If it didn't do it before then it's the stopcock.

Turn the water off, before the new valve, then remove the valve body from the new stopcock, and you will find the washer and jumper is loose, if you tap the end of the shank with a hammer so its a tight fit into the body, the problem should go away.

Good question, and technically No, but on the other hand the shock could cause a leak/flood with any weak joints
