Most cold water tanks I have come across seem to be around the 25 gallon size. I am looking at replacing one and wondered if there is a rule-of-thumb or regulation specifying the mininum size for typical number of occupants in a house.

I note that domestic cold water tanks are available from say 4 gallons to 50 gallons. I assume the 4 gallon is aimed at the central heating expansion tank.

Obviously the smaller the size, the lower the cost and easier it will be to get into the loft.

Basically I want to know what is the smallest cold water tank for a typical 3 bedroom house?

Thanks.

It don't work like that.

The tank is sized according to its use. the number of persons together with the pressure of the mains and what it feeds.

Some tanks just do the WCs so a small one would be ok, some tanks do the bath. utility room, toilets and showers.

Some houses have a low water pressure so the recovery is slow, therefore a larger tank is needed to avoid running dry.

Some houses want power showers which use large quanties of water so you want lots and lots of water.

For a normal house the 50/70 was ok.
