|
|
I am putting a swim spa in the garden in a purpose built shed, regarding the power it needs a supply of up to 55 amps
What thickness of SWA cable will I require to run in to the shed?
Would 16mm do it, it does say on a page that I was looking at that the 16mm cable is rated to 94amp so would this be as sufficient as it sounds.
I would also be looking to have a low voltage light and power socket in the shed.
I shall be getting an electrician to fit/wire it up but wanted to get the cable in ready before hand. |

ok I have done some more research, I would like this checked and verified but I will explain it incase someone else comes across the same problem.
There is a calculator here:
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/Charts/VoltageDrop.html
However that calculator needs the load in watts, which I don't know, however after reading here:
http://www.powerstream.com/Amps-Watts.htm
it seems it can be worked out.
amps x volts = watts
I need 55 amps
Volts would be 220
If so 55x220 = 12100 watts
If I put 12100 into the calculator and choose 3 core xlpe cable over 55 metres then it says 16mm is fine, that doesn't take into account a light or a socket mind so I woudl still like someone to comment if possible. |

The biggest factor would be the length of run to be able to calculate the volt drop.

| Hi Vince, the run would be around 50 metres. |
