For at least 48 hrs now my rising main has been making a noise as if water is running and feels cold to the touch as if water is running through the pipe. The main rises to the loft where it splits into the main cold water tank and c/h header tank both on float valves with isolation valves. No water is running in to either tank and turning off one or both isolation valves makes no difference to the sensation of water running in the rising main. Similarly with both valves operable turning off the hot and cold tap feed and the c/h flow make no difference. I can't however get over the worrying feeling that water is running out somewhere. I've checked outside for damp patched but nothing shows. I don't have a water meter so can't use that to check.
Basically until water suddenly comes up through the floor I am at a loss.

Anglian water have recently installed a new water main locally but I don't see how that could affect things.

Any ideas?
