I've got a challenge.

Before I left the states, I purchased a Frigidaire stackable washer/dryer, model FEX831FS1 to be used in Jordan.

I have a couple questions after reading through the instruction manual and reading through a wiring diagram that I found on line.

I understand that the current is dependent of the Voltage and Hertz.

But on the voltage, I’m confused. With a 110 you have 2 phase wires and with a 220 you have 1 phase wire and 1 neutral. Can this only be hooked up one way over the other?

I'm trying to figure if there is a workaround, but i'm confused when looking at the manual and looking at the back of the unit

In the reading I've done I realize that going from 60 to 50 will result
in:
The motor turns 17% slower
The internal current goes up by 17%
The power (watt) goes down with 17 %
The mechanical cooling is less, because of 17% less turns
The result is a higher current, then designed by the manufacturer and
the insulation of the electrical wiring deteriorate much quicker, which
after sometime results in a burn-out.

I know the unit is not intended to operate here, but returning the unit
would not be cost efficient, so I just need to get it to operate.

Thank you so much for any input you can provide.

Is there a way to get this unit to operate here in Jordan?

Thank you,

Todd Scher

Over seas the voltage is different than here in the states. We have 110v between the phase and nuetral and 220 between two phases. I do not know if there is a way to help you... Vince will be able to offer you more.

From the info he gives... best guess is that it is electric 220V dryer with a 110V washer attached.

yes, it is a split 220/110....I had a a local electrician who went to school and apprenticed in Texas for 5 years work on converting our washer and dryer...all went well. We had to purchase a 10,000 W transmitter so the machine would operate.

We still have the challenge of 60 to 50 hz. So the machine won't last long, but at least it operates. Should work for 5-6 years because we will only use the dryer if need be during rain or cold winter which here is a very short time, maybe 4-6 weeks total every year. Most of the time we will dry clothes on the outside clothes line.
