Hi. The pipes bang loudly whenever the dishwasher and washing machine draw water. It used to happen with the cold taps in the house until i reduced the flow by turning the stop cock to 'almost off'. If i open the stop cock further i find the banging is a lot worse and affects all the taps and when the loo is flushed.

I have a Vaillant Ecotech Combi Boiler and the radiators are unaffected.

I think the problem first started when one of the pipes feeding the then cold water tank had a leak. A plumber came and changed the tap and that's when the banging first began. Since then though, i've had the hot tank removed (as it sprang a leak) and had the combi boiler installed. The cold water tank in the roof has been drained and cut off.

Any ideas? Thank you for your help.

If only it were so simple! Am just wondering what else it could be. Originally started after the stop tap to the hot tank was changed but that is no longer there as those pipes etc have been removed since I had the tanks removed and combi put in. The plumber who put combi in said it's nothing to do with his work. Two other plumbers have said it's very difficult to find out what is causing it and you never know with these things.

Which tap was replaced? If the main stop valve then it is still there.

When exactly do they bang? When you turn the tap off? Banging is normally caused either by jumper in stop valve defective or loose, unclipped pipes.

Another thought were the float valves in WC's etc changed for high pressure types when converting to a combi system?

All the taps bang when they are turned off. So I open a tap then I turn it off and after a second or two a loud bang is heard elsewhere in the house (upstairs somewhere I think).

The main stop tap to the house has not been replaced.

No the float valves were not changed and now you come to mention it, I have noticed that the WC needs 2 flushes to clear instead of just one.
