I am experiencing the above. It is an ariston tank on a fully pressurised system (no header tank). The hot water ONLY is running cloudy and brown. Seems to be sediment, all be it small amounts. I am suspecting that the coil is holed. The system is only 4 years old in a four bed detached house with the tank situated on the second floor.
My questions.
Is my assumption right and if so is there any way of checking that my assumption is correct?
If the above is so, should I replace with a different make? (IE are Ariston a bit suspect)
If the coil is holed can this be repaired in situ or is the only way to replace the complete unit?

if the boiler has a pressure gauge on the front then to check if the coils leaking,
turn the mains stopcock off and open the hot and cold taps until they stop running.

then give it a couple of hours and see if the gauge on the boiler goes down.

if you have an open system...i.e a small tank in the loft the i suspect youd have seen this overflowing by now.

coils cant be repaired or replaced. new unit needed. ariston are ok i use heatrae sadia with a seperate pressure vessel (white)

Normally if the coil has gone you would see an discharge from the boiler pressure relief valve, unless as straker said you have an open vented system, but the overflow would be pouring out.

What temperature are you running the hot water at.

I think the anode may want changing, best to phone Ariston with the model.

how olds the house? is there any galvanized steel pipes? these might be rusting away merrily ...
(before you change the tank!)

The house is four years old the same as the system. IE a new build with no modifications.

No galv pipes. Do not know what temperature running at. I am at work at present. What is the anode and what does it do? Never heard that term before??

The anode is a rod that is inside the tank to help avoid scale, not all the Ariston cylinders have them.

Post the model and we can check.

The make is an Ariston. Model. WRc-NSF unvented hot water storage system. The boiler is a gloworm ultimate. This has no gauge on it so any other way of checking and getting a definitive on the holed coil?

Is there an expansion vessel on the or by the cylinder.

And there's no discharge from any of the pipes
