I've just found this site and thought I might appeal to someone for help.

Water going into cylinder is piping hot, but coming out is tepid.

System is 24yrs old, we have a potterton boiler.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

your saying that the BOILER water is going into the cylinder piping hot and that the water coming out of the taps is tepid...

it could be that the cylinder coil is scaled up or the the cylinder stat (if you have one) is dodgy. has the prob just appeared or has this been gradually happening?
can you see the stat? it should be strapped to the cylinder. it should be set at 60 if its fairly new. try turning it up and down and see where it "clicks". this will tell you what temp the stat shuts the boiler off.

Thanks straker1966, don't think there is a stat. but I'll have a look. Cylinder is 25yrs old so suspect your view about the coil could be right, is this easily changed.?

Can you check the small header tank has water in it please, a pic showing the pipes would be useful as well.

You probably won't believe me but I don't seem to have a header tank.

Several people have mentioned this, my loft is not very accessible but all I can see is the main water tank.

On the side of the cylinder are two pipes going to the boiler.

Look on the cylinder round about the rim and above the pipes for the word "Primatic" stamp in the copper
