OK, I know everyone says don't do this but as long as the main breaker is OFF what's the harm? Hooking a 6,500 Watt portable generator to the home power grid via the elec dryer outlet makes sense as long as you trip most of the homes breakers and leave on some lights and a few wall outlets. Make sure power conditioners are used with electronics, etc...

Is this something that can be done safely?

What should one be concerned about?

How do you take a four wire 220 plug (2 hot, 1 ground, 1 neutral) into a thre prong 220 socket (2 hot, 1 ground)?

In my capacity as a plumber, any home Iv'e worked in with this facility has had a changeover switch through a consumer unit, whereas one cuts the other off, in any case it would not work without the neutral.

For safety, No live supply should be delivered via the exposed prongs of a plug.

To avoid the hots getting hotter professional advise should be sought.
