Hi,

I have just bought a new house, and one of the first jobs will be to move the bathroom upstairs, which involves partitioning off one of the bedrooms and installing a new stack pipe.

Could you advise me on the best way to go about the stack pipe bit?

The drain I need to break into to join up the new soil pipe is a 4" vitrified clay pipe, running below a footpath on my property. Is it simply a matter of cutting this pipe and installing a plastic inspection chamber (will the vitrified clay join this ok?)... or is it better to replace the section with 110mm plastic and join up with flexible adapters?

Does installing a new soil pipe require planning permission?

Is this within the scope of a competant DIYer or a job for a professional?

And any idea what a professional would charge to install the soil pipe and inspection chamber?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Very Happy

First of all, I've got to remember where I packed my tools! Shocked

Is it difficult, not really visit the osma site they have lots of tips etc.

http://www.wavin.co.uk/products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=282013&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1630801&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=72859&bmUID=1063225726077.

Do you need building permission, best to ask at the planning office.

If you use the plastic inspection chamber, cut the clay pipe and convert it to underground plastic. it simply pushes into the sockets that you choose.

Use the special grease for the job should be available from your stockest.

How much depends, could be 3-4 hundred on who does the digging etc, and post code.

Use a slow bend when you rise above ground, and you have to bed and cover the pipe with pea gravel.

scruff. Cool
