I have a six foot wall at the bottom of my garden. The people who own the land behind the wall have asked for planning permission to build a bungalow there. I would like to partially screen the new building by adding 2 feet to the height of the wall. This, I am not allowed to do. Is there something I can attach to the existing wall (trellissing?) to help or would you advise planting something in front of the wall to eventually give 8 foot of screening? The wall is about 45 feet long.
Thanks

Hi Barry,
My father-in-law used 16 conifers all in a row to do the same job. The result (once the owners of the other house noticed them), was months of threatening action, legal & otherwise if these were not removed as they eventually reak havoc with the foundations.
The easiest way round this, as you mention is trellis. Full length was used & they just bought Ivy. This spreads like wildfire ! ! If you put it in now, by the time that bungalow is built it should give an adequate cover.
My in laws eventually moved.....you could try that option too !!
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice Roy. My wife hates ivy but I think she's going to have to put up with it. Do you think I'll have neigbour (legal) problems adding a trellis to a six foot wall? It's not like it's a permanent structure is it?
