The missus has seen a light fitting she wants for the dining room, and wants to be able to use a dimmer. The problem is it is a low voltage 5x20w halogen capsule fitting with transformer.
My question is can I use an intelligent dimmer on any transformered unit, or do I have to check compatibility with the specific transformer in the fitting? |

You must use a transformer that is capable of being dimmed.

Only definite way I know of is to make sure it says so on the box. You can not go by looks.
Alternativly go to a local reputable electricians. They will know and supply correct type of transformer.
