When I run the hot water in the tub the water is brown with iron. It doesn't do this anywhere in the house and the water only turn brown when you run hot water. Do I need to router my pipes? The water heater is in the next room over from the tub. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

The brown water is caused by rust in the pipes or cylinder, normally associated with old galvanised pipes and tanks.
To router them out would not be cost effective and it would return in a very short time, the only cure is to replace the rusty pipes ,tank or cylinder or all three.
A word of advise if replacing with copper avoid contact with any galvanised pipe/fittings, special fittings can be purchaced to join mixed metals.

benwane i think you problem is your h/w/c (hot water cylinder) coil
brown water out of hot tap is a tell tail sign of c/h (central heating water and d/hw/(domestic hot water ) mixing inside a indirect h/w/c and if correct you will need a new replacement h/w/c , please tell use how you get on . i recomend you contact a water board approved plumber

Don't think its the coil Mark because it's only brown at the tub and not any other faucet.

i understand what you are saying scruff but the tub is next to the hwc and also you tend to draw off more water into a tub there for making it very much more noticable . i am not disagreeing with you i just think i would rule out the hwc first by turning off isv and running hot tap and check if water level in header tank has droped thats all . |
