After much searching and asking, I am still no closer to finding out what M.O.T (as in type 1) stands for. Please could you assist? Thanks.

I think it's Minestry Of Transport as they have specs for different types of aggregate used in road bases, type 1, type 2 etc

Jason

Edit, I was right Smiley

"Also know as GSB TYPE 1 and 2, MOT TYPE 1 and 2. A granular graded material with a maximum permitted size of 75 mm down to dust, as specified in the Department of Transport Specification of Highway Works, Series 800. Type 1 material must be of a crushed nature to provide a stable sub-base for road surfaces. Type 2 tends to be specified for roads with lower trafficking and therefore may contain uncrushed material."

From another forum but I was nearly right Laughing
