I am having to replace a single switched socket and there seems to be 2 options, a switched SP socket and switched DP socket.

I assume this stands for single poled and doubled poled, but must admit I do not know the reason for the difference or if there are any restrictions/considerations to make in choosing which one to use.

Could somebody enlighten me on this?

Ok discovered first point, DP turns off both live and neutral while SP just turns off the live, so obviously safer. But are there any restrictions or points to note?

They both do the same job apart from that you have already mentioned, nothing special to note.
