Hi can I ask a non technical question. Hope this is ok.

I have no experience in electrics whatsoever but have an interview for a PAT tester engineer position this week.

My question is - would getting this job enable me to get into the industry quicker or would it not make a difference.

The college courses say anyone can study the technical certificate part time of an evening but it takes 4 years and I still would`nt be qualified at the end!

To do the actual NVQ you need to be in an electrical job. Would this job count as `being in the industry`?

I am 26 so an apprenticeship is not available.

cheers

No, PAT testing would not count as you will not be getting hands on electrical installation experiance.
I employ an older apprentice who goes to college every wednesday on day release as I find a more mature person is more willing to learn and are more reliable.
It is worth getting the yellow pages out and righting some letters.
Good luck Smile

Cheers but thats easier said than done. I will try but I think the markets aimed at younger blokes nowadays. Wish the government would get its arse in gear and open apprenticeships to all ages like they promised.

I know it is not easy plus it costs me £1500 a year for the college as the govenment wont fund over 19's. But there are empolyers out there like me who are willing to put something back into the industry before the country goes completely down the pan and Mr Blair pulles the flush. Smile
