I had a new home built 3 years ago and had the rough in plumbing in the basement installed. I recently finished the bathroom. My dilema is I have conflicting stories about the ejector pump. One source says the pump is just sump pump grade and can't handle solid waste. The other source says since there is a two inch waste pipe the pump can handle solid waste. I have put some solid waste into the pit and it seems to eject without a problem. How can I be sure?

In the UK the pump you want would be called a "macerator", with a trade name, often starting "Sani..." clearly marked on it. Many sump pumps will handle "soft"(!) waste, but don't macerate so wouldn't be suitable. I suggest you describe what you have to a local plumbers' merchant (take a picture?) who will probably recognise it.
The plumbing for plain water sometimes isn't suitable for sewage, eg tight bends must be avoided - or else!

What Chris said... While a standard sump pump may work on some things, you need a pump specifically designated as a sewage ejector pump. You certainly don't want any failures with this type of system!!!
