I think my problem is the "water hammer", but it only occurs during the rinse cycle of the washer. Could this be something else? The machine? A valve? What would your opinion be on draining the system as mentioned in previous postings? The unit is in a condo so I'm not sure even if this is a problem in the unit or in the building's plumbing system.

Thank you!

Too many unknowns, not enough info, and probably nothing you can do. Washer valves operate very quickly so water hammer is a common problem, but in a condo, you probably cannot correct the situation, unless you have direct control over your own plumbing.

Maybe things are different your side of the pond, but here our washing machine hoses screw on to a 3/4" male thread on a washing machine tap. I saw a device recently which went between the hose and the tap, which looked like a small pressure vessel. I don't recall the name but the P.V's are about the size of a large lemon and commonly available. A plumber wouldn't have trouble putting the bits together. It would also have a small isolating valve to adjust the damping effect you need.

Hope that made sense Shocked! If not I could email a sketch.
