Is there anyway that I can link up a transformer for downlights and the extractor fan, in my bathroom so that they both come on with the light switch? The instructions on the transformer say that Ican't because of powers spiking by the fan will damage the transformer. Any ideas?

If that is what the manufactueres instructions say, then pay heed. It is mosy likely an electronic transformer, not a traditionional wire wound device, and may be more susceptable to spikes. While it should have internal protection, the manufacturers instructions always win out.

Easiest way, Ian, would be to use a two pole light switch, easily available in the UK.
