There should be lots of books on the subject at home stores, but it is fairly simple. Hot into one side of a shower valve, cold into the other, then the outlet pipe up to the shower head. If there is a tub outlet, that usually comes off the bottom of the valve and will have a diverter of some type to select the shower or the tub spout.
