The drain in my bathroom sink has the silver cap stuck down in it. It looks like the sink is plugged, like it's supposed to be there, but you can't pop it up. It's just the cap not the whole thing. It was just the perfect size to drop in there and not come out! We've tried a skinny knife to pry it out by popping it up but you can't get underneath of it, (that's our problem!). How do we get to that part of the sink from underneath? Any other suggestions? Thank you!

You obviously are not familiar with the workings of a sink, so I will try. The handle that normally operates the stopper has either rusted off or simply came loose. Under the sink, the rod goes thru the faucet to a connecting part that screws to the rod, then to the stopper operating lever thru holes in the connectiong part held in place by a spring type keeper. Something has come apart in this group of parts and should be easy to repair, parts available at most any home or hardware store. Hope this helps.
