The house I recently moved into has 3x12v 50w halogen downlights in the bathroom. One of these has started cutting out after being on for a short while. Any thoughts on what might cause this?

The lamp base that the bulb pushes into is worn and the terminals are arcing. If you remove the lamp you will probably find one of the legs is black or off colour. The only fix is to replace the lampbase or fitting.
