Hi - We've got a problem with humming pipes. The pipe which is the problem is the main water pipe. The humming coincides with the central heating - when it comes on the humming starts. You can relieve the humming by turning on the cold water tap.
I've tried bleeding the rad's - didn't work.
I think the problem might be the water pump - but I don't know.
Any ideas?? |

I read somewhere that if the pump setting is too high the pipes might hum.
Maybe its the pressure from the water main? Too low? Maybe it's too high and that's why turning on the tap stops it - it relieves the pressure. If that is the case how do I stop the humming? Could the pump be faulty in this respect, pumping too much? |

There is a range of stop cocks that have in-built pressure reduction. Might be an option if the pressure it too high. I think they are not as precise as pressure reducing valves but also a lot cheaper than a PRV.
Another thought is a mini shock arrester - more for water hammer. Similar price to the pressure reducing stop cock. |
