Woke up this morning to no hot water or central heating. I have an old Baxi Bermuda 551 ( I know it's old but I'm unemployed and can't afford a new one!). The pilot light had gone out and I cannot relight it. There is no spark appearing when the ignition button is depressed. I can light the gas fire though, no problem there. Do I need a new ignition switch? And if so any ideas on if it is a diy job or not and how much it would cost? I have tried to ring a dozen or so heating engineers in York this morning but keep getting the same response: "We are booked up solid for 3 months, call us in September"! God I wish I was a Plumber!
Many thanks

Most likely problem is the thermocouple.
Try re-setting the valve by turning the knob on the gas valve to the right and waiting till it clicks.
Could also try lighting it with a match.
all gas work should be left to the experts.
