|
|
All,
At last I am getting around to having a new boiler done...I'm at the quote stage and would appreciate any ideas on what I 'have' to have (as part of regs) done at the same time rather than what someone wants to sell me!
I am after upgrading my original tired system:
1) A new 'Traditional' Boiler (not condensing)
2) A new hot water cylinder and immersion heater
3) New heating controls (digital programmatic)
I've already had people reply going on about:
1) De-sludgeing existing pipework/tanks etc
Do I really want this done...i.e I would have thought if anything finds holes in things de-sludging will?
2) Suitable rads and valves?
Just because I'm having a new boiler there's no regs for all the valves to be replaced by thermostatic is there? I am not asking them to replace rads.
3) Balanced Flues?
I thought a flue was a flue? Is this something different?
4) Gas supply must be a minimum 22mm.
Although my supply IS 22mm it must be reduced somewhere before going into boiler as it is 15mm there. The Corgi guy I had in last said that was ok...is this true?
Many thanks in advance for your help

Client can refuse system upgrade if they so wish, but for the sake of an extra hundred pounds ish, it should be money well spent.
Gas pipe size will depend on boiler output, most modern boilers require 22mm minimum.
Powerflush is require by boiler makers as part of their terms and conditions, although I would suggest it could be challendge under the sale of goods act.
Get BG to quote, then a couple of others, but check they all quote for the same boiler etc, a good heating Engineer will offer sound advise, listen to him and follow his lead.
If he sounds doggy or you don't like what he says, go elsewhere.
