I have a "no hot water but central heating working" problem, and from reading previous posts I am guessing I have sludge issues. Any rough estimates as to how much this will cost to fix? The flat is a small 2bed upper villa, kitchen, bathroom, tanks in the attic.
I'd appreciate any suggestions before I call a plumber (I have no clue when it comes to plumbing, and have been ripped off in the past).

Thanks!

Is there a motorised valve that diverts the hot water from the boiler to either the hot water tank or the radiators? Is there a thermostat on the side of the hot water tank? Is there a hot water tank?

If so, changing the temperature setting of the tank thermostat should cause the motorised valve to operate.

I would check this before getting the system cleaned. Might be useful to describe the make of boiler etc.
