I have just had a new toilet fitted and it doesnt flush toilet paper etc. away. It will flush solids but it takes 3 or 4 times to get rid of paper etc. What can I do to sort this?

Donnie,

Is the toilet cistern filling? Some modern toilets have very quiet valves and it can be difficult to tell whether the cistern has finished filling. Flushing before it is full will give the problem you describe.

Is the cistern filling / emptying to the right levels? Can you flsuh the toilet with the cistern lid off and check the max / min levels. Some siphons have plugs / adjustments to set the amount of water that is used. In the UK this is typically 6 / 7 or 9 litres depending on the age of the toilet. If the level is too low to start or too high at the end of the flush, then this could be a problem.

Is the soil pipe blocked? If the flush is OK, but the water level in the bowl rises, then this might indicate a blockage further downstream.

Is the pan restricted? Has the installer used putty / silicone to excess (for example) and some got into the pan to restrict the flow. Generally manufacturers recommend little or no putty / silicone. The water should discharge evenly and quickly around the rim for most designs I have come across.

Oh, which Alexandria? I know Alexandria on the North Coast of Egypt?

Cistern is filling. I've tried what you have suggested but still no joy. The plumber did use putty but I cant understand how solids are being flushed and paper etc isnt. Is there anything else you can suggest.

PS Alexandria in West Coast of Scotland not as exotic as Egypt I'm afraid.

Yes I am real and I do understand your comments. This is a real problem in our household as I have 3 teeanage daughters and it is very embarresing for them when their products dont flush away as they never had this problem before we got the new toilet installed 2 months ago.
The toilet is part of the boston bathroom suite with a button flush and paper used is andrex. Thanks for your help it is appreciated.

Paper is not the problem, then it must be wc outlet problem.

Suite could be faulty

Not familiar with the boston suite, who makes it and can you post a pic from the side, showing pan, cistern and outlet pipe connection.

You didn't say if the water level rose to a high level when flushed, this is important as it could indicate a blockage.
